I use the Blackboard in Studentcentral for:
Blogs,
I use these in a variety of ways including:
- Planning a trip to a Spanish speaking city with photographic illustrations and details about points of interest, events and things to do
- Making a reservation at an hotel http://www.hlondres.com/ , where two students acting as visitor and hotelier have dialogue which can be listened to by other blog viewers
- Performance by students of the play Bodas de Sangre, taken from Carlos Saura’s adaptation in dance of Lorca’s work. This includes dialogue in text and sound together with photographic record of scenes
- Students invited to research life and work of an artist e.g. Federico Garcia Lorca by adding information and illustrations to the ongoing blog
- Students of many nationalities describe, in Spanish, what is characteristic about Christmas celebrations in their own cultures. Sound and photographs included
- Student appears in a photograph and describes the clothes they are wearing
- Student writes an invitation to a party and gives directions and details in the blog. Some invitations are illustrated. Others have opportunities to ask questions and respond.
- Students describe the school they attended when younger and point out characteristics which reflect their culture, as a vehicle for practising verbs in the Imperfect Tense.
- Students compose an anecdote about a personal experience which others listen to and see a photograph of the storyteller. A variation of this exercise was the creation of a fable
- Students viewed a video interview by me with a TV producer from Los Angeles. They then wrote questions to him and he replied in recorded voice to individual students
- Students were firstly encouraged to visit Sevilla and walk around the city using Google Street view and listen to my recorded commentary Subsequently, I posted a number of questions about cultural aspects Sevilla illustrated with photographs, inviting students to research and respond in Spanish on the blog Students give details about themselves, e.g who they are, what they do, where they live, about their families and what they like
- Students converse getting to know each other. Also talking about themselves.
Also in the blackboard:
- weekly posts with task information (deberes)
- examples of students’ work
