Skills for blogging

To start using your Blog in C@B, do: Your Stuff: Your Blog > Post a new entry

  • write a Title for your post: Post Title
  • write your text in the text box: Post body
  • if you wish to, put some appropriate keywords or tags: Keywords
  • choose Access restrictions
  • send your post to C@B: Post

Use the Toolbar buttons for basic editing tools; it may be possible to use some keyboard combinations as well. Hover over the buttons to see their function. Remember you need to Select the text you want to edit before you apply an editing tool.

To put in a hyperlink, eg to a web page:

  • visit the web page > click in the Address bar to Select the full URL (including the http at the beginning) - you may need to double click, or maybe drag across the full URL to Select it > do Edit: Copy if available, otherwise do: Ctrl-C on the keyboard (Cmnd-C on Mac)
  • Select the text (double click or drag across) in your Blog that you wish to link from
  • click on the Insert/Edit link button > Paste in the URL you Copied earlier: Ctrl-V (Cmnd-V on Mac)
  • decide whether you want the web page to open in a new window
  • do: Insert
  • do: Post and click on your link to check whether it works correctly

Including your own media

In C@B, you first need to Upload any files you wish to include, then use the Add File button to locate your file and include it within your Post.

To include a photo or other image:

Stage 1: Upload

  • go to Your Photos (Sidebar)
  • click on Post a photo (Links bar below heading)
  • Browse your computer to find the image you wish to upload
  • optional: give the image a Title, decide on Access restrictions, add some appropriate Keywords (see notes on Tagging below)
  • check the box to confirm your right to use the image
  • Upload

Stage 2: Include

  • in your Post body, click where you want to place the image
  • click the Add File button (below Post Title)
  • in the left-hand panel of the File selection window, click on _photostream_ (or wherever you Uploaded your image)
  • in the right-hand panel, click on your image's filename or title
  • the image itself will not appear in your Text box, but there should be a short line of code to represent it, such as: {{file:5502}}
  • if you wish to continue writing below the image, click at the end of the code, and do Return on the keyboard

Stage 3: Link

  • you can turn the image into a link: in the Post body box, you will need to Select the image code (including brackets)
  • follow the procedure outlined above for inserting links (Copy URL > Select image code > Insert/Edit link > Paste URL > Insert)

See the section on Embedding.
